NFC On-Metal
The use of NFC tags on metallic or conductive surfaces requires special solutions. This is where our NFC On-Metal Tags come into play, which are specially designed for such applications. We offer a wide range of high-quality NFC tags that work on metal surfaces, including stickers, coins and magnets. Read more…
How NFC also works on metal
NFC works through electromagnetic induction. This means that metallic or conductive surfaces can interfere with the electromagnetic field required for data transmission when scanning an NFC tag. This is why NFC does not normally work on metal. To avoid this interference, one could theoretically create sufficient distance between the NFC tag and the surface. However, this is not practical in many application scenarios. For this reason, NFC tags that are to be attached to metallic or conductive surfaces are provided with a ferrite layer. This special layer significantly reduces interference and enables the NFC tag to be scanned on metal without any problems. It is important to note that the ferrite layer must always be located between the NFC chip or antenna and the metallic surface. The ferrite layer has no disadvantages and on-metal tags work just as well as NFC tags without this additional layer.
Areas of application for NFC On-Metal
NFC on-metal tags are mainly used in the industrial sector. The possible applications of NFC tags on metal are extremely diverse. The following examples show just some of the many areas in which they can be used.
- Disposal service provider: By attaching NFC tags to containers, customers can easily book waste disposal services via their smartphone.
- Logistics and warehouse: Metal products and components can be fitted with NFC tags to track them throughout the production and delivery process. NFC tags on the often metal warehouse shelves can also make inventory management much easier.
- Machine and equipment maintenance: NFC on-metal tags can be attached directly to machines and devices so that technical data or maintenance logs can be conveniently accessed via smartphone. This optimizes maintenance processes and simplifies access to important information.
- Inventory: The on-metal tags are also suitable for recording and managing devices, which are often made of metallic materials, and enable quick and easy identification and digital documentation.
NFC on-metal tags can also be used in a variety of ways in the private sector. One example of this is attaching an NFC Sticker On-Metal to a lamp on the bedside table. Many of these lamps are made of metal. An on-metal tag with a ferrite layer makes it easy to scan with a smartphone. It is equally useful to attach an NFC Magnet On-Metal to the fridge to easily call up or update the shopping list. In this way, various everyday tasks and processes can be made more efficient with the help of NFC technology.
The right material for your requirements
Our NFC on-metal tags are available in a variety of materials to meet different requirements. The choice of material depends heavily on the application. Many of our tags are made from PET or waterproof PVC, which are ideal for most applications. While PVC is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, PET is designed more for indoor use. For particularly demanding environments, we also offer NFC Stickers or NFC Coins On-Metal in more robust materials such as ABS, FPC and PPS. Below you will find an overview of the different properties of the materials, which will help you to select the ideal solution for your needs.
- PET: Water resistant, suitable for indoor use.
- PVC: IP67-certified, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
- ABS: IP67-certified, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
- FPC: IP68-certified, heat-resistant, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
- PPS: IP68-certified, resistant to heat, pressure and chemicals, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
