NFC Headphones
Most headphones nowadays can be connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth. This way, we can send playlists from the smartphone to our headphones without annoying cables and also play them through the headphones. Wireless music transmission is of course particularly practical when on the move or during sports. In the meantime, however, more and more Bluetooth headphones additionally bring along an NFC function.
What advantages does NFC bring to Bluetooth headphones?
NFC technology ideally complements the Bluetooth function of headphones, because it enables even faster and easier pairing with the smartphone. NFC is very similar to Bluetooth, but has a much shorter range (1-4 cm). This is a big advantage, because an NFC-enabled smartphone only needs to be brought very close to an NFC headphone and the connection is established. With a Bluetooth connection, you would have had to select the desired headphones from a list of Bluetooth devices in the vicinity and then confirm the connection via PIN entry. However, due to the short range of NFC, it is immediately clear to the smartphone which headphones it should connect to.
When are NFC headphones particularly practical?
The NFC function is especially handy for headphones when you like to listen to music on the go. Especially in crowded places like the gym, connecting via Bluetooth would be more cumbersome because there are a lot of Bluetooth devices in the vicinity. You would then have to select the right device from a list first. NFC is also very useful when listening to music with friends. For example, if you first want to connect your own smartphone to the headphones and then prefer to listen to the playlist from a friend's phone, the friend only has to briefly touch the headphones with their phone and the connection process is complete.
