Why is NFC not working with my AirTag?
The airtag cannot be scanned, nothing happens - Why does the airtag not work in conjunction with NFC?
There can be various reasons for this. Possible reasons include incorrect apps, scanning problems with the iPhone, the use of Android smartphones instead of iPhones or defective hardware.
We explain the possible reasons in more detail below:
1. Wrong app - only Shortcuts app possible
You may have tried to use the airtag with another NFC app. However, this only works as an NFC tag in conjunction with the Shortcuts app in iOS.
2. Scanning problem or incorrect posture
It is known that iPhones have problems scanning. The airtag cannot always be scanned without problems. If the Airtag cannot be scanned, move the Airtag in the upper right area of the iPhone and wait three seconds after each movement. Our tests have shown that the airtag in the top right-hand corner of the iPhone is scanned particularly well.
To rule out the possibility that the problem lies with the airtag, you can try scanning another NFC tag. If this cannot be scanned either, the smartphone could be the source of the problem. The smartphone's reading function may be impaired due to damage.
3. The wrong smartphone
Only NFC-enabled iPhones can use the airtag as an NFC tag. Android smartphones can only read the fixed link on the airtag, which leads to a website with information about the owner and the serial number in lost mode.
**4. Defective device **
The NFC chip inside the airtag may be damaged. You can check this by holding another NFC-enabled smartphone to the airtag. If the smartphone cannot access the link on the airtag, there appears to be a problem with the airtag.
