Where can I turn on NFC on my devices (that are not smartphones)?
Activating NFC on smartphones sometimes differs from activating it on other smart devices. Where you can enable NFC on NFC-enabled devices is explained here.
Depending on the device, the NFC function can be found in different places. While NFC is always enabled on modern Apple devices, it can be enabled and disabled on Android smartphones.
Smartwatches
Not all smartwatches have NFC integrated. First, it should be checked whether the smartwatch is nfc-enabled. If it is possible to pay with the smartwatch, then a smartwatch is also nfc-enabled. Whether NFC can be switched on and off manually on smartwatches depends on the manufacturer.
Example: Samsung Galaxy Watch
On the Samsung Galaxy Watch, NFC can be enabled and disabled. This is easily done with the following steps:
- Open Settings.
- Tap on Connections.
- Select NFC and Contactless Payment.
- Activate / deactivate NFC via switch.
Apple Watch
As with iPhones, NFC is automatically enabled on the Apple Watch. Switching it on and off is therefore not necessary. Apple Wallet functions are also possible on the Apple Watch. They work automatically if the necessary cards or keys are stored in Apple Wallet. Apple Pay, Home Key and Car Key can thus be used through the Apple Watch.
PCs and laptops
Most PCs and laptops do not have NFC integrated themselves. This means that an external NFC reader/writer and suitable software is required. Therefore, turning NFC on and off is not required.
