What is the difference between NFC and RFID?
Both Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Near Field Communication (NFC) ensure contactless data exchange, but differ in their communication range. The communication distance between two devices is significantly shorter for NFC than for RFID.
In addition, NFC was designed from the outset to store additional, small amounts of data on the chips that can be used for their own content. RFID, on the other hand, focuses primarily on identification using the fixed identification number.
But what are the advantages of NFC technology? It is preferred to RFID, especially for processes that require sensitive data (for example, payment). With RFID technology, you might have paid as soon as you were even near the cash register. So at that time, a new transmission standard with a shorter range was needed. Sony and Philips tackled this problem together and thus developed Near Field Communication.
