What is a NFC sticker?
NFC stickers are a specific type of NFC tag. How do they differ from others?
Due to the NFC chip inside the NFC sticker, it is possible to read data with NFC-enabled devices (smartphone, NFC reader) and, if desired, change it. Like other NFC tags (e.g. tags, cards), they can contain various information such as links, shortcuts or messages.
Structure of an NFC sticker
An NFC sticker consists of an NFC chip and an antenna, both of which are built into a material such as PET. The NFC sticker also has an adhesive layer to adhere to surfaces.
Adhesive layer: NFC stickers have an adhesive layer. In order to adhere securely and robustly to surfaces, some NFC stickers have a 3M adhesive layer. This means they are better protected against moisture and extreme temperatures such as heat or cold.
Materials: NFC stickers are available in various materials and can differ depending on the application. Their material thickness also varies depending on the material. The material thickness of NFC stickers ranges from 0.1 mm to 3 mm, so they can protrude more on surfaces or lie very smoothly on a surface.
- FPC (waterproof, heat-resistant)
- PVC (waterproof)
- PPS (waterproof, heat-resistant, pressure-resistant)
- PET (water-repellent)
- Paper (not waterproof)
- Bamboo (not waterproof)
Product shapes: NFC stickers are available in round and square shapes. However, other shapes are also possible, such as heart-shaped stickers.
Design options: In addition to different colours, NFC stickers can also differ in terms of their transparency. There are opaque versions, but also transparent stickers where the chip and antenna are visible. Customised designs are also possible! We offer to print NFC stickers with your desired design.
Weight: NFC stickers are lightweight. The weight can vary depending on the material and shape. Most NFC stickers weigh between 0.1 g and 15 g.
Special stickers
In addition to standard NFC stickers, there are special versions for specific applications.
NFC Security Sticker / NFC Tamperproof Sticker
These stickers are tamper-proof as they can only be attached to a surface once. If they are removed, parts of the antenna are permanently destroyed. As a result, the NFC technology no longer works as the NFC chip becomes unreadable. Such NFC stickers are suitable for checking the authenticity of products such as clothing and accessories or a driving licence.
On-metal stickers
If NFC stickers are attached to metallic surfaces, they no longer work. The metal absorbs the radio waves of the NFC reader, which is why the NFC chip does not receive enough energy to be activated. For this reason, there are on-metal NFC stickers that have an additional layer that insulates them from the metal surface. This means that NFC stickers can also work on metallic surfaces.
Water-resistant NFC stickers
Robust, waterproof NFC stickers are required for some applications. This can be the case, for example, with plant pots or in outdoor areas where NFC tags can frequently come into contact with water.
