How does an NFC tag reader work?
The communication between a reader and tag make up NFC. But how does an NFC reader actually work?
The reader is provided with a power supply (e.g. USB or rechargeable battery) and can thus send energy and commands to the NFC tag. The NFC tag then sends the required data back. Now the reader can display or further process the information.
Various processes can be performed by a reader. Let's take the unlocking of a door lock as an example. The door lock is a reader and is supplied with power. It is always ready for use and waits for a key card with which to unlock.
The key card contains an NFC tag with a unique ID. If the door is to be unlocked, the key card must be held up to the door lock. The door lock then commands the key card to communicate its ID. Finally, the door lock checks the ID and opens if it is the correct ID.
