Do on-metal tags also work on non-metallic surfaces?
On-metal tags were specially produced for metallic surfaces. But do they still work on non-metallic surfaces?
Yes, they also work on other surfaces. On the on-metal products there is only an extra separating layer to isolate the NFC tag from a metal surface. This layer is not actually necessary for non-metallic surfaces, but it does no harm either.
Insulation layer and effect
The thickness and type of the insulation layer can vary depending on the application. For example, if it is a rigid PVC tag (such as a coin), the insulation layer can be thinner, as the NFC chip is already cast in non-conductive material. Wafer-thin stickers, on the other hand, require a thicker insulating layer. The insulating effect can be further increased by using additional material such as foam. Combined with a rigid material, this results in on-metal tags that adhere securely to uneven surfaces and still offer high performance.
There are therefore a variety of ways to realize an on-metal tag. In summary, however, they all involve creating a shield against metallic surfaces. Feel free to contact us to select the perfect NFC tag for your scenario.
