Are there NFC tags that can only be written once?
Not every tag can be overwritten by write locks. But are there NFC tags that can only be written once?
Yes, these exist in theory. Typical NFC tags offer the option of setting a write lock so that they cannot be overwritten. However, there is no automatic write lock that is activated once an NFC tag has been written to and cannot be reset.
Some NFC tags should not be overwritten again or should also be protected from being overwritten by third parties. This is precisely why write locks exist that prevent unwanted overwriting. However, this write lock must be set manually.
It is therefore possible that manufacturers set this write lock manually before a pre-programmed NFC tag is sent to customers. This means that customers only have read access to the NFC tag. In this case, it would be an NFC tag that has only been written to once.
