Does Bluetooth have to be switched on to use the AirTag with NFC?

The airtag works with Bluetooth and NFC. Does Bluetooth have to be switched on if I only want to use the airtag as an NFC tag?

No, Bluetooth does not need to be switched on. Bluetooth is only responsible for the location function, but is not required for triggering automations with NFC.

However, if an automation requires an Internet connection, for example to open a URL, the smartphone should be connected to the Internet.
